Roses produce fruits, known as rosehips or rose hips, in early summer. These fruits ripen in late autumn and are enjoyed by animals and humans alike. For centuries, rosehips have provided nutrients during times when most other plants have finished producing. Our rosehip powder is ground from organically harvested Rosa canina and Rosa rubiginosa. The powder can be added to smoothies, jams, honey, herbal syrups, and body care products.

Rose hips develop on wild roses as the flowers drop off. The rose hip, also called the rose haw, is actually the fruit of the rose. These fruits are among the most concentrated sources of vitamin C available. Rose hips have a tart flavor and can be used to make jelly, jam, soup, or oil, or to flavor tea. During World War II, the British government collected rose hips to make rose hip syrup as a source of vitamin C, in place of unavailable citrus fruits. Rose hips have a long history of use in traditional medicine.

Active Compounds: Gallic acid, catechin, lycopene, tocopherols (Vitamin E), linoleic acid, ascorbic acid, ellagic acid, procyanidin B2, carotene, zeaxanthin, lutein, quercetin, malic, citric, and tartaric acids, alongside minerals like magnesium, iron, zinc, and potassium.

Actions: Anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antioxidant, astringent, demulcent, nutritive tonic

Indications: Rose hips, the nutrient-dense fruit of the rose plant, are primarily valued for their high vitamin C and antioxidant content, which offer significant anti-inflammatory benefits. They are used medically to treat osteoarthritis pain, boost immune function, improve skin conditions such as wrinkles and scars, and support cardiovascular health by reducing cholesterol levels. Traditionally, they are used to manage digestive issues, with mild laxative effects and the ability to soothe mucous membranes. Due to their high concentrations of vitamin C, antioxidants, and flavonoids, they are used to support immune function, reduce inflammation, and treat colds.

Precautions: Rose hips are generally safe but should be used cautiously because of their high vitamin C content, which may increase the risk of kidney stones, iron overload (hemochromatosis), and sickle cell anemia. Common side effects include nausea, stomach cramps, and diarrhea, especially at high doses. It is advisable to avoid rose hips during pregnancy and while breastfeeding.

Herbal Magick: Rose hips are potent symbols of love, protection, and endurance in folk magic, representing the fruit of the rose bush after the petals fall. They are used in charms to attract love, ensure romantic longevity, and ward off nightmares. Associated with Venus and the element of water, they are commonly used in love spells, potions, and protective household rituals.
