Goji berry, or Lycium chinenis, is an edible berry grown in China. Records show the Goji Berries have been used in Chinese herbal medicine and for culinary purposes since 100 A.D. The pleasant-tasting Goji berry, sometimes called Lycii Berry, is thought by some to have antipyretic and alterative properties.

The Lycium Berry has an exceptionally dense concentration of complex carbohydrates. Its antioxidant carotenoids and flavonoids protect from free-radical damage. Carotenoids, especially beta-carotene, a vitamin A precursor, are also important for eye health. Organic Goji Berry is sometimes used in a cooling tonic. Whole Organic Goji Berries are still one of the most popular tonics in Chinese herbal medicine today.

PLEASE NOTE! "Goji berry" and Lycii berry are virtually the same, with the only discernible difference being that Goji is usually a high altitude strain of Lycium and is commonly found in the Himalayas, Nepal, Tibet, etc. In contrast, the Lycii berry is the more common variety found in lowland areas. For trade purposes, they are usually considered the same.

In Magick, Goji berries promote harmony, peace, and friendship. In Chinese folklore, it is said that you can resolve a quarrel between friends by having both of them eat Goji berries. It can also be used before bedtime to induce prophetic and lucid dreaming. In other Chinese folklore, it is said that Goji Berries promote long life, and mythology says they can even extend the lifespan to over 100 years!
